CANOPY
FIELD COURSE - 2005
The Forest canopy research
field course is offered as part of the discipline “topicos
em ecologia” at the State University of Campinas (UNICAMP)
but is open to foreign as well as Brazilian students.
Foreign students may
register for the course under two categories:
1- They could subscribe to the course through Unicamp as an “aluno
especial estrangeiro” (special foreign student).
This will permit the student to obtain official credits that count
towards the degree at their university in their own country. In
this case, all official documents must be sent to Dr. Flavio Santos
PRIOR to subscription: fsantos@unicamp.br
and all bureaucratic procedures as described on the web site below
are necessary (visa, translation of documents, etc) plus the field
course documents (ecology project, recommendation letters, letter
of interest, etc, see Course Application Calendar below). In this
case Unicamp will be in charge of assigning credits for the course
and formalizing the students attendance, etc.
Foreign students
who are interested in attending the 2005 canopy field course as
‘sepcial foreign students’ are advised to consult
the following web site http://www.unicamp.br/prg/dac/cal_pos.php
or to contact the serviço ao aluno estrangeiro on tel +55
19-3788-6410. The web site provides information on the documents
needed and procedures to follow PRIOR to subscription to the code
NE313. Note that general information about official documents
are the same for any discipline. This discipline will be formalized
and available to subscriptions at Unicamp site only in the second
semester of 2004 (July – December 2004)
2- An alternative
way for students to apply for course is to subscribe to the course
directly through the course organizers as a “aluno
estrangeiro” (foreign student). This is a simpler
form of application but will not enable official credits to be
given to the student. In this case, only the field course documents
(ecology project, recommendation letters, letter of interest,
for details see Course Application Calendar below) must be sent
to Dr. Talita Fontoura: cursodosselba@uesc.br.
At the end of the course the field course organizers will give
‘foreign students’ a statement letter with the name
of the discipline, total hours and necessary information so that
they can apply for credits in their institution. Students will
need to check whether their own university/institution will be
able to give them credits on this basis.
